About Us

We are the Olson family in Southwest Michigan with a yak of a story. A family with seven children, who homeschools and does all the things.

In 2023 our yak journey began with one little injured baby yak, who we named Bobina. Against everything the vets were telling us, we bottle fed her, and tended to her wound diligently, twice a day. Multiple times we had others tell us, she will not make it. But....She made it! She fully recovered from the wound and you would never had known she had an injury.

Soon we added a small herd of yaks from Colorado and in 2025 we bought out the yak herd from Chama Valley Meat Co. in New Mexico, bringing our herd up to just over 300 head of yaks.

Why did we choose yaks? Have you seen them? They are beautiful and so soft. They are such a unique animal and their meat is very nutritious with a higher protein compared to beef and much lower in fat. There are other reasons but too many to list here.

We had a desire to do life with our children, in a way that was teaching them about life, responsibility, working with others, growing a business, and most importantly about our Heavenly Father; we saw this in our new yak adventure.
